At first glance the TAOS appears to be similar to some devices such as a number of walkers currently available on the market. In fact the TAOS differs significantly from anything on the market because of many unique and patented features. All of these unique features were developed over a three year period of design, testing and refinement. The ultimate goal was to provide a system that was as easy to use as possible without sacrificing function.

Orthotic Support
First and foremost we want to ensure that children are bearing weight while their bodies are in good anatomical alignment. If children, or adults for that matter, bear weight in poor alignment they are exposing their joints and muscles to unnatural forces that may lead to joint damage. To ensure we achieve good alignment, we have designed the system around a highly adjustable custom orthotic that will keep your child in alignment and can grow with for at least 2 years !

Sit to Stand Mechanism
The reality is that many children who utilize this system spend little or no time on their feet. The TAOS enables them to accomplish this task we all take for granted. This lack of standing results in weak muscles and lack of muscle control often resulting in rapid fatigue. The sit to stand mechanism allows for children to be lowered to a seated position when fatigue sets in. Once they have recovered they can once again be raised up to a standing position to continue standing activities. The sit to stand also simplifies the docking of the orthotic to the base for larger children whose weight presents a challenge for parents and therapists alike. Instead of having to lift the child onto the base as with other systems, with the TAOS you can easily transfer them to the seat then use the lifting mechanism to bring them to a standing position.

Ambulatory Assist Mechanism
Many walkers incorporate a system of bungees and cords or straps as an attempt to prevent unwanted motion of the child's legs. Unfortunately, these systems also provide resistance against motion required for gait. This means the child has to overcome a force in order to walk. We have developed a revolutionary system that exerts NO resistive forces against motion required in normal gait. Our patented system prevents unwanted motion of the legs (such as both feet forward or backward simultaneously) while allowing normal gait patterns to occur without resistance.

Improved patient suspension
The orthotic in our system is critical to help insure the child is maintained in proper position and alignment. However with this orthotic control there is a potential for discomfort. We have addressed traditional problem areas by improving suspension and distributing load bearing. We control and support children at five different points (chest, waist, thigh, shin and foot). This better distributes the force from the weight of the child to comfortable padded interfaces. We have fit children who can't tolerate standing in some of the other systems available. They stand and move about comfortably in the TAOS.

Parent/Practitioner friendly features
In our quest to simplify as much as possible our system, we developed some features specifically with the parent and practitioner in mind. We made the base into three separate sections making it easily separated into its component parts for travel then reassembled once at the destination. This can be done in a matter of seconds without the need for any tools. In addition, we incorporated wheel locks to keep the base in place during docking of the orthotic.
